Galvanized Steel vs. Galvanized Steel: Which Material Is Better for Raised Garden Beds

About Aluminum Zinc Steel

Galvanized steel is a super material compared to regular galvanized steel. Aluzinc is a coating material formed from a mixture of aluminum (55%), zinc (43.4%) and silicon (1.6%). Durable to provide superior performance and corrosion resistance in all environmental conditions.

Galvanized steel is the perfect material for outdoor use. In Scandinavia, outdoor exposure testing has been carried out for almost 20 years. They have demonstrated that the corrosion rate of Aluzinc is 3-7 times lower than normal galvanized steel

5 Benefits of Using Aluminium Zinc Steel in an olle Raised Garden Bed

Extremely strong corrosion resistance: Compared with wooden or plastic beds, Aluzinc is 7 times more resistant to corrosion and rust than ordinary galvanized steel, and 3-7 times higher than ordinary galvanized steel. The corrosion rate (the thickness of the Aluzinc coating lost per year under normal conditions) is a maximum of 20% of one micron (0.2 μm). In theory, Aluzinc has a lifespan of more than 100 years under normal conditions. In real life, Aluzinc has been used in harsh marine environments for more than 20 years, although the coating loss is as high as 0.4 μm in the first year.

Excellent heat reflection: Aluzinc steel has excellent albedo capability. Albedo is another name for reflectance, and it measures how much light hits a surface to be reflected and not absorbed. Research has shown that soil in galvanized steel is maintained at an optimal and more uniform temperature than wood, concrete and dark plastic beds, which absorb summer sunlight during the day and stay hot at night. Research has also shown that galvanized steel beds have the added benefit of improved fruit set, rosy color and ripeness.

Incredibly high strength: The Aluzinc surface is twice as hard as ordinary galvanized steel and more than 5 times as hard as wood or plastic. With high abrasion resistance, Vego raised beds hold soil for decades without deformation.

No Soil Contamination: While treated wood and plastics degrade in extreme temperatures, Aluzinc materials do not leach chemicals into plants or soil. This helps create the highest quality soil for organic gardening.

100% Green and Recyclable Material: Steel has a long service life and is an environmentally friendly material made with "green processes". Not only is steel 100% recyclable, but it is also the most recycled material in the world.
